ExpressionEngine for Beginners
What you should know before jumping in.
So, you've heard about this content management system ExpressionEngine. You don't know much about it but you want to take a look, try it out, maybe use it for a project you have lined up. Well, you're at the right place. I'm going to go over some of the major points of EE and then talk about how you can get started.
ExpressionEngine is a flexible, extensible and affordable content management system with functionality that goes way beyond many of the popular blogging tools that people are using to build websites. I recently put together my thoughts on EE in the article "Why ExpressionEngine Should be Your Next CMS."
- Make sure your web host or server meets the minimum requirements to run ExpressionEngine
- EE comes with a simple wizard install tool that installs the software in minutes.

- ExpressionEngine Documentation - The official documentation for ExpressionEngine is thorough and helpful. If you're new to EE, however, you might find it difficult to use because it simply documents EE functionality and doesn't always give real world examples.
- ExpressionEngine Forums - Moderated by paid staff, the EE forums offer valuable help for individual problems you might have with EE. It's also the first place I'd search if I was running into an issue with EE.
- ExpressionEngine Wiki - A collection of tips and tricks, including snippets of code you can use in your EE project.
- EE Screencasts - A series of 10 screencasts that walk you through -- step-by-step -- how to build an ExpressionEngine website. Learn more by watching the free preview.
